George, being the parent feels it is his responsibility, to teach Lennie what is wrong and right. George is teaching Lennie society's way of living, providing Lennie boundaries to help him survive. He gives Lennie instructions and stability to develop and grow. On the other hand, Lennie gives George purpose. Without, Lennie George would not have been responsible. George could have done something which is not accepted in society. However, George can't since he understands, Lennie looks up to George and follows his guardian's actions. George feels a sense of responsibility taking care of Lennie. George wouldn't have been working hard to find a job if he did not carry Lennie's responsibility.
