There are two tragic heroes who are alike yet so much different. Those tragic heroes go by the names of Macbeth and Oedipus. These characters come from two different plays. The tragic hero Macbeth comes from Shakespeare 's play Macbeth while on the other hand Oedipus comes from a play titled Oedipus the King by Sophocles. Throughout this essay I will be comparing and contrasting some of their tragic flaws. The tragic flaws I am going to be comparing and contrasting are going to be fear, high ranking, and the flaw of having pride. First I will be comparing and contrasting the flaw of fear that both tragic heroes share. In the story of Macbeth he is influenced by his wife Lady Macbeth to go through with the murder of his friend Duncan who also holds the place as king. He has fear in getting caught but he also has fear of going through with the murder. This becomes a tragic flaw because this leads him to have a guilty conscience throughout the rest of the play. In Oedipus the King Oedipus has the tragic flaw of fear because once the messenger tells him about his fate he tries to run from it but in the end he ends up only running to it. The messenger tells him that he is destined to end up killing his father and marrying his mother which scares him in a way that he sets out to find something different. Only to come to find out that he walked right into that after he tries to save the people from his new place from the plague. Fear is a tragic flaw because it changes the way…
