Examples of lifestyle factors include poor diet, eating habits, school nutrition, and lack of physical activity. The latter remains tied to the environmental factor such as poor access to parks and green spaces. Collectively, such issues continue to cause Hispanic people to be or become overweight or obese. Additionally, “cultural factors related to dietary choices, physical activity, and acceptance of excess weight in racial-ethnic groups interfere with weight loss efforts” (National Hispanic Caucus of State Legislators, 2010, p. 22). Education – The desired results under this heading include improved diet and eating habits; however, given their correlating attributes they both fall within the reach of education. For instance, teaching the importance of using healthy alternatives and substitutes when cooking, not only aids in weight reduction but improves health outcomes without sacrificing cultural factors related to diet (NHCSL, 2010). Also, with education, we can advance their knowledge on the importance of routine eating habits, for example, eating three nutritious meals per day with healthy snakes in between.
