Similarly, I also believe very strongly in serving the underserved and advocating for those who are not able to advocate for themselves. My work as a nurse assistant has also allowed me to recognize the importance of maintaining a patient’s environment and hygiene. When a patient is not able to do for him or herself, it is our job as the nurse to help them. Just by receiving a bath and a linen change, a patient may feel significantly better than before. It may give them just enough energy to sit up in bed or eat their lunch. I believe this is was Florence Nightingale has taught. Nurses do not just administer medications, but are responsible for maintaining a supportive environment of healing for the patient.
