Some groups of people in today’s society are getting incredibly out of control. “In order to limit the possibility of this untenable change, and restore whiteness to its former status as a marker of national identity, a number of white Americans are sacrificing themselves. Much as they may hate their behavior, and know full well how craven it is, they are willing to kill small children attending Sunday school and slaughter churchgoers who invite a white boy to pray” stated Toni Morrison in MOURNING FOR WHITENESS. There are people doing horrible things because they believe it is the right thing to protect the whiteness. They are misusing any power they have to justify their actions, using the excuse like “because of I have the right” in the experience with my father. Fearing that you could possibly die just because someone has the power to do so. What I am about to talk about isn’t just about the police brutality, but about local people causing harm because they have the “right” and higher power not coming in to help the black community. Probably the most famous case where a local man took in the power to handle a situation poorly is the Trayvon Martin case. In 2012 Trayvon Martin, a 17-year-old, was fatally shot by George Zimmerman, a neighborhood watch volunteer, in Sanford, Florida. This young man died because of the way he looks, lacking justice.
