Thesis: It is important to have fiction books to learn from them especially about illnesses that play a big role in today's society. For example social anxiety and depression, which is not widely taught or really accepted, to understand and get a new perspective on new situations. The general argument made by the Each Mind Matters California's Mental Health Movement in this article called, ¨ what is mental health?¨ is that anyone can have a mental illness. More specifically ,that having a mental illness is not okay and if they admit to having one they will be treated differently and like something is seriously wrong with them when it is in fact more common than we think. For example, ¨Self-stigma results in a loss of self-esteem, diminished self-efficacy, and a hesitancy to participate in society at large¨, meaning not knowing how to cope with mental health issues can lead to not being happy with yourself which may lead to isolation. Although the authors might have object that people who deal with this have to cope with their symptoms and everything that comes along with that because of just their mental illness. I still maintain the thought that if you yourself are ignorant about mental illnesses and you have one you could be denying your own self the treatment you need. Therefore I conclude that getting rid of the social stigma around mental illnesses will help people who suffer to come forward and get the the help they need.
