The horrific disease, “Red Death”, is highlighted and running through the story, The Masque of the Red Death, by Edgar Allan Poe. It also brings out the memories of the Black Death of Europe during the Middle Ages. The protagonist was the Prince Prospero. When his dominions were depopulated, he brought one thousand people went into hiding in a castellated abbey in order to avoid the fatal disease. He decorated and provided all the appliances of pleasure just without the “Red Death.” The Prince Prospero prepared an ideal setting and a masked ball while they isolated the ravage of the pestilence from their living world. Even people are enjoying in revelry with enthusiasm, the tones from the clock as a death warning could stop the artificial festivity no matter how a happy time they own. In addition, the color of the seventh room is a kind of black velvet tapestries and no light of any kind represents the darkness of death. Of course, the color symbolism in the title of “The Masque of the Red Death.” The author makes the color a meaningful being around the story.
Second, the symbolic setting happens in the castellated abbey. The Castle represents man's efforts to prevent death. Even though they are wealthy or highly noble, the death still as a disliked figure walks into their fort. Rooms represent the stages of life.
