The Nobel Peace Prize was awarded to Martin Luther King Jr. in 1964. “ Whose work to resolve serious conflicts without violence is also helping to reduce in the United States the discriminate bitterness that condemns international organization... because of the participation of people of non-white races and of the concerns to promote ‘the dignity and worth of the human person’ regardless of race” (Nobel Prize MLK). The Nobel Prize Foundation was founded by Alfred Nobel in 1901. He has been awarding men and women for extraordinary achievement in Chemistry, Physics, Physiology, Medicine, Literature, and work in Peace. The purpose for the Nobel Foundation is to award people for their effort in contribution to society. Martin Luther King is also alike to Gandhi because of his philosophy of nonviolence and Rosa Parks because she fought for human rights and equality. Martin Luther King had a problem with racism and discrimination. The memorable march to Washington in August 1963 was to show the importance for solving racial problems in the United States. According to the Nobel Prize Foundation, Martin Luther King Jr. seemed to be a stronger candidate. He led a powerful and efficient mass movement. He received the Peace Prize for his nonviolent campaign against racism and discrimination.
