The Nobel Peace Prize was awarded to Martin Luther King Jr. in 1964. “ Whose work to resolve serious conflicts without violence is also helping to reduce in the United States the discriminate bitterness that condemns international organization... because of the participation of people of non-white races and of the concerns to promote ‘the dignity and worth of the human person’ regardless of race” (Nobel Prize Foundation.org MLK). Through the discrimination Martin Luther King was known as the bright student and outstanding speaker in his class. He did not properly finish high school, he went on to college in his junior year of high school because of his high test scores. At the age of 19 he graduated from Morehouse College in Atlanta with a BA in Sociology. Martin Luther King was influenced by Gandhi 's philosophy of nonviolence. King also caught an an attention of a Civil Rights Activist named Rosa Parks, who refused to give up her seat. “This broke the strict segregation of coloured and white people on the Montgomery buses. Martin Luther helped organize a strike where coloured people refused to use any of the city buses” (Nobel Prize Foundation.org).
