Sarah Breedlove was born in the late 1867. Sarah also was born on a cotton plantation, also she was the first of her family to be born free. Her parents passed when she was 7 years old, result from the horrible disease called the yellow fever. Sarah lived with her sister and her brother in law in Vicksburg, Mississippi. She offered them a lifestyle, a concept about hygiene and beauty that in her mind would boost them with pride for advancement . At the same time, Madam C.J. had the insight to corporate and even when she couldn't attract big name,(like Revlon) she invested her own money. Madam C.J Walker taught her agent to invest their own money into their community.
Madam C.J. Walker beauty products complemented her belief that one of the ways black women could gain access to business careers and financial power was by looking more acceptable to members of the dominant mainstream white society. Using her preparation would not only help improve personal hygiene for many rural black women, but also enhance their personal self esteem
