Wilder 's life is the focus of the media and his life is being celebrated because of his loss due to Alzheimer 's at the age of 83 on August 28, 2016. Best known for his wacky neuroticism, Gene Wilder was born Jerome Silberman in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. He changed his name at age 26 to Gene Wilder after deciding that he couldn 't quite see a marquee reading "Jerry Silberman as Mac Beth."
