    3. This quote comes from a sermon from Jonathan Edwards, a Calvinst preacher and philosopher, called [Sinners in the Hands of an Angry God]. In his sermon, Edwards uses descriptive and vivid phrases to describe the relationship between man and God. Using the metaphor "The Bow of God's Wrath" for God and his anger, he states that humans are sinful creatures that provoke God and bring upon his wrath. God is a powerful being who "without any Promise or Obligation at all" has no incentive to help mortals or lead them to heaven.…

The earliest tradition states that the original Gospel was written in Hebrew by Matthew, a tax collector who later became one of the Twelve Apostles of Jesus (Matthew 9.9) and subsequently translated into Greek. Most scholars believe that the Gospel was written in the area of Syria-Palestine between 70 CE and 90 CE, because the area is where the rabbis started to get political power mainly after 70 CE (Keener 44). The Gospel was originally written for Jewish-Christians to emphasize Jesus’ role as Messiah on the basis of the story that Jesus fulfilled the Old Testament prophecies about the Messiah.…
