As the congresswoman Kay Granger said, “Human rights are not a privilege granted by the few, they are a liberty entitled to all.”. Emma Watson, Cesar Chavez, and Mother Jones all fought for different human rights. These three inspiring people fought for gender equality, child labor laws, and migrant worker laws. Although these individuals fought for different human rights, using the trait of persistence they were able to fight for what they thought was morally right.

Mother Jones used persistence to fight for child labor laws because she felt as though children were put in dangerous situations that were not necessary. To show the gruesome working conditions of the children, Judith Pinkerton Josephson wrote in her story, “Their bodies were bone-thin, with hollow chests. Their shoulders were rounded from long hours spent hunched over the workbenches. Even worse, she saw “some with their hands off, some with the thumb missing, some with their fingers off at the knuckles”—victims of mill accidents.” (Josephson). From this it can be proved that children were pushed beyond the limits a child should go through and because of this Mother Jones wanted to stand up for the children because nobody else would. “On July 15, Mother Jones wrote a letter to President Roosevelt. She told him how these poor mill children lived, appealed to him as a father, and asked him to meet with her and the children.” (Josephson). This shows that Mother Jones was very passionate about her work as a defender of Human Rights. “Mother Jones had drawn the attention of the nation to the problem of child labor. She became even more of a national figure. Within a few years, Pennsylvania, New York, New Jersey, and other states did pass tougher child labor laws.”(Josephson). Even though she did not change the working conditions, she brought more attention to the child labor laws that showcased her persistence because she did not give up when working for what she thought was correct. All and All, without Mother Jones children could still be working in the conditions that they used to work
