Throughout the course in Sexuality and Dating, there are many new ideas and thoughts about several different topics that have given me an outline on how to be the best man I can possibly be. While the church teaches us right from wrong, not everything that the church says are necessarily the best ways to go about life. Most of their ideas are the path to happiness while some can be turned a little to make the best sense. To elaborate more, the main topics that we discussed in class this semester were chastity vs. abstinence, pornography, cohabitation, dignity and respect, love, marriage, family, dating and if the idea that people can change stand true. The first point to touch upon is chastity vs. abstinence which was explained to us by the Evert family. The church teaches us that chastity is a moral virtue while abstinence is a habit. These two words are very important with the same ideas but different meanings. Chastity is freedom from sexual impurities where one lives a pure premarital life and understands the power of sex enough to keep it for marriage. On the other hand, abstinence means saying no and avoiding certain things such as premertial sex as well as pertaining to nonsexual activities like not eating meat on Friday’s during lent. Abstinence revolves around saying no to many different issues because a belief in a spiritual or eternal reward.
