Even if the knowledge does not serve a vital purpose for existence of humans it does not mean that it’s value is decreased. People find inspiration in art and the art works as a source of generating new ideas for them. People, can learn from it and sometimes it helps people emotionally. On this side of the argument we can see that it actually is the intrinsic value of knowledge that makes it valuable. Today, it is hard to see the importance of hidden things, in our very realistic world the value of implicit meanings loses its significance. Also, perhaps art is valued because of its historical background and the cultural evidence it conveys. Ever since humans existed they have been always producing some sort of art. Starting from the neanderthals’ cave drawings to our futuristic art today. People intuitively feel to save what belongs to them and that is why the art is valuable and is stored by people. Art is also a way of documenting historical events and that adds another level of value to it. The art of the Renaissance contained a lot of art based on religious themes. For example the Sistine Chapel ceiling painting “The Creation of Adam” by Michelangelo. We do not know if we would be able to achieve what we have achieved without the very basic indigenous knowledge. People feel the need to respect the basic principles of our existence and what has brought us to our civilised world today because indigenous knowledge systems were the bases of our ideologies today. Alternatively, this knowledge allows us to learn from our ancestors directly by analysing their mistakes and achievements. It is a part of the humankind knowledge and in order to progress we need to know what we derive from. Additionally, in order to evaluate the importance and significance of indigenous knowledge it is necessary to take into account the whole population of the planet. Even if the percentage of indigenous people is really small, they still exist, and that means that indigenous knowledge is still applied and utilised and therefore alive. Our society could even learn something from indigenous people. Since their reasoning and actions were not influenced a lot by technologies they learned to live in harmony with the nature and environment. They knew that if they harm the nature they will essentially hurt themselves.
