The Grangerfords resembled a perfect civilized family, one that Huck didn't have. Huck mentioned, “It was a mighty nice family and a mighty nice house too” (Twain, 99). This family had some dirty secrets up their sleeves. Huck probably never saw it coming when he found out that family had a feud going on for Generations. This endless battle between Grangerfords and Shepherdsons. During Huck’s stay with the Grangerfords, he accompanies them church. Out of nowhere, both wealthy and “civilized” families bring their guns to church. As the guns are against the church's holy walls the preacher talks about brotherly love. “It was pretty ornery preaching- all about brotherly love and such-like tiresomeness” (Twain, 109). Right after the sermon everyone talked about how good it was. Huck then describe this hypocrisy as, “ I don't know what all, that it did seem to me to be one of the roughest Sundays I had ever run across yet” (Twain, 109) . Churches are for people who strive to be better and desire to follow God's Commandments. One commandment that can be suggested is the love one another law. These two families have no consideration for God’s laws. The only love that exists is between Harry Shepherdson and Miss Sophia.
