Some technological fields of science are faced with the problem of keeping users of their product safe. As a teenage girl turns 16, her mother and father decide to buy her a brand new car. In their options, they only include the safest, environmentally friendly cars. They decide to pick the newest car in their options with the highest safety evaluation. What this teenage girls parent might not know is that her new cars safety technology was developed with the help of human cadavers. This testing happens when teaching hospitals are done with the use of the cadavers and sell the remains of the bodies to the companies. The cost that the hospital charges is cheaper than the cost of the actual test dummies and gives more realistic data. I believe that it is morally wrong to mutilate a human body. Growing up of the Catholic faith I was always taught to respect the dead as one would respect the living, even though we believed that the spirit left the body after death. Also, the families of those bodies donated may not have been informed of this decision until their loved ones had passed away. This coming from doctors instead of the families loved one would come off on a more insensitive level. Especially when telling the family members that the bodies would be torn apart and studied in learning and researching environments. This would be where I would feel as if it would be inappropriate. People also have different religious values where disrespecting the dead is a sin. I feel if these religious values are a problem with a family member or a medical student in a cadaver lab they should not be used in the study.
