The last 30 years have been focused on creating visibility for bisexuality. Since the 1980s, there has been growing activism in bisexuality as the bisexual movement has been increasingly accepted in the world during this period. The development of the history of bisexuality was first and foremost affected by the discovery of AIDS in the 1980s. Bisexuality came to the forefront, as bisexual activism was a response to the crisis. Bisexuals had taken on an important role to combat the effects that AIDS had on the LGBT community. The 1990s was also an important period as it saw the prominence of bisexual literature. The Journal of Bisexuality became the first academic, quarterly journal on bisexuality, when Fritz Klein founded it in 1997. The journal consists of many important works of literature of the history of bisexuality by various theorists and historians. An interesting argument put forward by the in the journal was written by David Halperin. Halperin devised 13 different ways of looking at a bisexual. This reinforces the argument that the essay is trying to make in that bisexuality is a difficult term to define.
