Hostile and aggressive behavior in the work environment can be dangerous if not handled correctly. Workplace aggression can be defined in several ways and actions. This can range to behaviors towards individuals, verbal actions, physical actions against property and personnel. Hostile actions tend to start from extreme stress or a difficult situation whether in or out of the work environment. The term “seeing red” has come into play several times in these incidents. Its effects if ignored can extend of two different types of aggression scales. There is the extreme scale with results in serious outburst of aggression that can physically be damaging to everyone around while the other is verbal and lesser forms of aggression. These are just minor effects from psychological aggression. A breakdown of task can be progressive from one link. If one person is not working efficiently the others around him must take up the slack that they are not doing. This will cause them to spend more time completing other tasks and not their assignment and slowly trickling throughout the chain. In the end it is not, just one person who is behind it slowly becomes everyone involved in that task. Aggressive behaviors can once again slow or impede work progress but in this case cause things like fear, serious distraction or even create stress in other co-workers. If an individual has aggressive behavior in the work place, it could lead to several things including social effects. Studies show that when having both a professional and personal relationship with Co-workers it leads to a healthy environment in both work and personnel. Chronic stress and depression are lower and the overall office functions effectiveness. However, lapses in the network could be created by stress related outburst to include breaking of everyday networking and relationships. This could lead to an unhealthy environment in which stress grows not only in one individual but also in perhaps everyone exposed to that outburst. The office is a team environment that needs all its workers to be comfortable both in their work and in surroundings. It is important that support be shown from the bottom up to decrease incidents create steady workflow. It can be said that a stress free environment is certainly not always possible so it is best to try to decrease common stress by simple ways. Encouraging co-worker connection is a positive reinforcement in the office and a step to maintaining a healthy change. When aggression becomes an issue, the connection between the workers will decrease the chances of the stress cycle becoming an issue. The ability to spot a growing issue will also be easier and might prevent further outburst. Aggressive behavior can always be an issue in any work environment whether it is in a civilian or military setting. Things like physical damage and spread of fear happening or psychological stress and cycles of stress happening it is important to stop the initial issue and contain the stress to lower levels preventing any interruption to the regular work environment. In no way should stress lead to aggressive behaviors in the work environment whether it is intentional or not.
