One thing people fight and strive for all over the world is acceptance. Acceptance of the color of our skin, our heritage, our beliefs, our values, and our sexuality. Homosexuality is defined as a romantic attraction, sexual attraction or sexual behavior between members of the same sex or gender. Different groups of people have different views on many different things like sexual desire, activity, and overall relationships. Some approve of homosexuality while others disapprove. The fight started more than 40 years ago with riots against the police because of the hate crimes taken out on the homosexual community. More acceptance has happened in parts of the world, but the fight and hate still continues today. It’s unfortunate, but we live in a world where the concept of true love has been defined as love between and man and a woman. For years homosexuals have fought for equal rights and to be treated like every other human being. Gay men and lesbians are the third most frequent targets of hate violence. It’s because of the hate crimes committed against homosexual individuals that have heightened their fear and insecurities. It’s also these same hate crimes that gave homosexuals strength and power to fight for equal rights. A hate crime is simply defined as when individuals become victimized because of their, race, ethnicity, religion, gender, or sexual orientation.
