policies impact the health and wellbeing of migrant workers. “Oaxaca’s economic depression is linked to discriminatory international policies such as NAFTA”. In Holmes, book we read the stories of migrant workers many of whom had to come to the U.S because our international policies left them with no job back in their own countries. The U.S.’s international policies caused the multiple layer of structural violence for Abelino and people like him in Holmes book. Our policies first left Abelino with no job back in his own country, as a result, he had to take the difficult and dangerous journey to the states in order to survive. When he finally arrived, he constantly moved in order to find jobs. When he found seasonal jobs he had to work harder because he was a migrant worker. In the first module, you have mentioned about “a little boy, drowned on the beach after fleeing Syria” and asked us to “look at how U.S. policies and practices play a role in the death of this child and so many like him”. Throughout this semester we have learned that “our health and well-being is connected to others who are not like us, who do not live near us and who are seemingly disconnected from our everyday lives” That little boy who died trying to escape from the death and many others provide us the comfort we have here. We are living at the expense of others. Many people in America and also around the world suffer because of the American policies. Native Americans suffered, Navajo people suffered, HIV fighters suffered, Triqui migrants suffer, farmers in Mexico suffer, breast cancer fighters suffer, people of color suffer, 25% of American children who live in poverty suffer, people who live in Ebeye Island and coffee farmers suffer. Now that I know the suffer some folks endure I can put different meaning on the strawberry and I can see strawberries more than being a red sweet fruit. As you hope, I will never take for granted how my health depends and more importantly, I now know that the comfort of buying strawberries from the grocery store depends on the
