It was only in the second wave in the 1960’s when women, whose sole role in society was that of caretaker and homemaker, decided that a new and more direction and approach to breaking down the notion of these stereotypes needed addressing. Not only did the second wave of feminism in which women were liberated from oppression occur but it was also a coincidental correlation with the economic expansion of the time. Whereby the new American economy had outpaced the available workforce. This meant that women were not only required but essential for the economic expansion. The door was now officially open for higher paying, more qualified and more profession jobs. The women had been liberated also because of economic need.
