The growth of invention that occurred (1865-1900), 638,000 patents were issued to boost invention (lecture: Gilded Age). This rapid growth of industrialization and fast growth of invention and the emerging of new technology started to scare away other people who thought everything was moving too fast. Not everybody was for change or liked to see change moving that quickly (online lecture: The Gilded Age). For example, telephone was invented by Alexander Graham (1876). On the picture around the electric pole you can see telephone wires running across and down were the man is hanging. The light bulb and the light pole behind the woman and the child, symbolizes the invention of light bulb by Thomas Alva Edison (1879). When you look the entire cartoon picture you see that the city is powered with certain brightness and light. This symbolizes the invention of General electric. During the earthquake, there was one man who narrowly escaped from the disaster. G.A.Raymond who was sleeping at the Palace Hotel survived from the earthquake. Raymond described how he woke up from the hotel when the lights went off but reaching outside he saw dawn and light. And on the cartoon picture you can tell from the background that it was dark time but due to fire and light, its looks like dawn. This is the sight Raymond saw. As per the description from the earthquake, Raymond met a woman outside when he was running who wrapped her arms around his neck but he pushed her and fled. Now on the cartoon picture you can see the short thick man running away with panic is G.A.Raymond from Palace hotel. The woman behind him looks like he just passed or overtaken her, is the woman who threw her arm on his neck but he pushed her away and ran. You can see the woman falling from Raymond’s push, the earthquake itself, and from the falling bricks. The child next to the woman pictures those children who were caught on that earthquake mess but lacked help. Many died from this tragedy and left wonders on what to blame. Whether was the invention of electric and tall buildings that caused fire or was to happen anyway without that many things on city such as electric wires, crowded and tall buildings that contributed lot of damage than it was supposed to
