A type of therapy is just one aspect of working with a client. The views being shared today are Gestalt Therapy and Family Systems Therapy. These two therapies differ in many ways but also show some similarities. A few differences and similarities are within main ideas, techniques, effective and ineffectiveness, and multicultural counseling limits. To be able to see the strength and weakness within each we need to start by introducing the founders and key figures within these two theories.
Founder/Key Figures
The founders and key figures in these therapies range. Gestalt Therapy came from Fritz perls and his wife, Laura. Family Systems therapy came from Alfred Alder with key figures such as Murray Bowen, Virginia Satir, Carl Whitaker, Salvador Minuchin, Jay Haley, and Cloe Madanes.
