Gestalt Therapy Case Conceptualization

Case conceptualizations are an intricate part of becoming a counselor. They allow for students to work with a specific theory that may possibly stay with them through their entire career. Here is a case conceptualization from the rehabilitation case study; I have applied Gestalt therapy to help the client.
II. Client Overview
The client is a 38-year-old, divorced Mexican female, with two children; presenting with anxiety and depression symptoms. She has a successful, good paying career in upper-level management at a thriving business; for over six years. The client was in a recent car accident that left her with two broken legs. Because of this incident, the client reported being constantly worried that she would lose her job and be unable to provide properly for her children. As well as fearing how her injury would hamper her getting to work on time and performing everyday activities such as cleaning and cooking. She noted that she had a rough marriage and divorce; the divorce was two years ago and she feared he would try to come back into her children’s lives often. Her ex-husband had emotionally and verbally abused her; the frequency of which increased as they got closer to the divorce. He

The hope is that the client is able to regain or re-own her potential so she is properly able to cope with her injury and the added stress it has put on her life (Harman, 1974). Ideally, the client will learn to handle things that happen to her in the most helpful and healthy ways. Preferably the client will be able to go about her life back in a normal fashion of being able to work properly without fear getting fired, understand that she is a good mother and will be able to provide for her children, those feelings of hopelessness will be gone and be able to get an adequate amount of sleep at
