Fox News in the Bret Baier transcript is fiercely dismissive of the climate consensus and argues against human activity as the root reason. They shut down the scientific facts numerous times. For example, all of the guest commentators agree that they do not believe the “97 percent of scientists who studied the issue” (9), which causes viewers to distrust scientists and their argument that global warming exists. Fox News uses the consensus to make it appear as ridicule that all 97 percent agree that climate change is real. They are using the logical fallacy of straw man to make the statistic appear exaggerated and unbelievable to show that climate change is not real. Fox news attempts to make the liberals claims appear as crying wolf and all over the place to show that climate change is ridiculous. Moreover, guest commentator, Bill Cunningham, a conservative commentator and lawyer, builds trust when he states, “...normal Americans know what’s going on, and I’m normal” (11). His comment is suggesting that Democrats have no interest, or love for, normal Americans. Cunningham is showing Democrats as anti-American elites, while he is looking out for their best interest. Since Americans simply want their nation to return to normalcy, they will side with Cunningham's argument. Fox supports this by including two of Republican’s most hated politicians, Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama who are viewed by conservative for disrupting American normalcy through wars and economic
