Film Analysis: Django Unchained Throughout the film Django Unchained, many can infer that there are some historical inaccuracies. This film originates in many of the slave states around the time of The Civil War, 1861-1865. The movie, directed and wrote by Quentin Tarantino, is a gruesome and bloody film that displays the most critical cases of that time era.
Django Unchained was rated the number one movie in 2012. Django Unchained is a story about a “former dentist, Dr. King Schultz, [whom] buys the freedom of a slave, Django, and trains him with the intent to make him his deputy bounty hunter. Instead, he is led to the site of Django’s wife who is under the hands of Calvin Candie, a ruthless plantation owner.” (Want to See More?) Though this film was viewed a great movie, many historical critics would argue that many of the scenes were incorrect. Django Unchained first takes place in 1858 in a town in Texas. This is one of the few things the film had historically correct, Texas was a slave state as of 1845. The opening scene had slaves chained hand and feet waking along the valleys without shoes and with poor clothes. These depictions of slaves being demoralized and degrading were also correct. Quentin Tarantino depicts the abuse and dehumanizing of African Americans apparent in an opening scene where Django throws off his blanket and shows the horrifying lifetime scars that were lined across his back from the slashing of a whip from his previous owner.
