This quote "Everything has to evolve or it perishes", strongly fits Finny. Finny is strong, athletic and has a highly energetic personality. After the first broken leg, Finny realizes that he won't be able to fight in the war and so only becomes depressed. He doesn't admit this depression to anyone, but it slowly advances him into denial about the war. Before he broke his leg for the first time, Finny would talk about the news about the war; but after the horrifying incident, he outwardly declares that there is no World War II.
Finny’s fatal flaw is his inability to see that others are not as pure as he is. Finny had possessed “a heightened confidence in himself, a serene capacity for affection”(203) and because of this, he perished. Unable to fight the evil in the world because he was blind to it, Finny’s life ended. This encompasses Finny’s inability to change and evolve as well.
Finny has a hard time seeing that not everybody wins and that the world is a harsh place. A good example of his idealistic views would be the game he created called Blitzball. His view that nobody would win or lose would not be feasible. When playing the game Gene starts to question the game with “Still mine? Nobody else has had the ball but me…” (chapter 3) after Gene says this Finny makes up a whole new rule “... Now if you refused three times [...] you go all the way back to the tower and start over.” proving there is no winner. He never grows out of this idea and realizes that the world isn't fair and that some people win and some lose, it all depends on what you do in
