P1 - Describe the event, conference and exhibitions environment in the UK

Types of event

Corporate hospitality
Corporate hospitality is a private event held by corporations and businesses to entertain and build good relationships with their staff and clients and to encourage new businesses. For example a company hires a venue such as the Hinitze Hall in the Natural History Museum which offers galleries for a range of evening events with catering facilities and staff which will be used only by the business team.

Sometimes business meetings are held in places such as a meeting room of a local hotel or airport without any charge to discuss policy or issues with a group of staff. When a supplier and a client need to meet and the meeting involves two or three people, the meetings take places in the lounge of a hotel or the airport without any charge.
Annual general meetings are held by a company to bring their employees together or to bring professionals who are interested for a discussion about any issues which is taking place once every financial year, at which the annual report is presented.

Other (educational, medical)
Educational conferences are often organised by unions such as the National Union of Teachers (NUT). Educational conferences are usually composed of various presentations. They tend to be short and concise, with a time span of about 10 to 30 minutes; presentations are usually followed by a discussion.
Medical conferences are organised and sponsored by drug producers to promote discussions new procedures and products.

Trade fairs
Trade fairs are exhibitions in which companies show and sell their products and try to increase their business.
