Aside from Puerto Rico’s rich culture, their scrumptious cuisine is widely renowned. Throughout the island, Puerto Rico offers a variety of food and beverages. Southern countries with a dense population have the expectation of serving bland food. However, Puerto Rico demolishes all those expectations. A home-made meal prepared by the locals keeps everyone’s mouth watering and wanting more. Puerto Rico’s most traditional dish is a hearty gumbo, Asopao de Pollo which is a Chicken and Rice Gumbo. Year around locals and travelers admire this tasteful soup. The authentic Puerto Rican food consists of native ingredients and is a mixture between Latin American and African cuisine. Immigrants overflow Puerto Rico with their recipes and personal ways of cooking, (El Boricua) says that “African slaves influenced the Puerto Rican kitchen greatly introducing the use of plantains, coconuts, and their favorite method of cooking, frying.”. …show more content…
There is nothing better than a tasty desert following a perfect meal. Flan is the most popular desert served on the island. Most people admire this sweet, custard mold flavored with caramel. Puerto Rico’s location closely between other islands has influenced their style of cooking tremendously.
