Both Frederick Douglass and Harriet Jacobs happen to be born during the time of slavery, which implies that they were part of the slave movement and went through the same experience. Once they were free, they wrote their narratives. Harriets book was “Incidents in the life of a slave girl”, which was published in 1861, while Douglass wrote “Narrative of the life of Frederick Douglass: An American slave.” Both of these narratives were located in the South.

In the slavery life, he feels upset, as well as, disrespected as a man and looked for ways to liberate his life from it. His writing was targeted at the audience, whereas Jacobs gave sympathy to the women found on the North side (Jacobs, p.98, 2011).
