I used to drink slimming tea before dinner and then after dinner immediately rush to the bathroom to get rid of it. After dinner I would go to karate for about 4 hours, doing each class, then return home and do more exercises on the Wii fit; again my mom never questioned, she just thought I was an active kid. This phase stopped around 7th grade, I was never diagnosed with anything, I just simply tried to have the “perfect body” that everyone tries to reach.
Eating disorders are so devastating that they can effect one’s life completely through relationships, both intimate and friendship, along with their health and how they function on a daily basis. For example, Dr. Phil had identical twin sisters on his show, Taylor and Tricia, that both suffered a severe form of bulimia. They had binging and purging rituals, eating extremely large portions of food together, and locking themselves in the bathroom for the purging. The girls never knew how dangerously thin they were until seeing photos on the screen, resulting in an emotional breakdown. Tricia thought she was just a normal weight, until seeing the truth. When the girls were shown photos of themselves at a healthy weight, Taylor stated that’s when she knew how to eat normal, and she loved herself. Treatment for eating disorders will vary depending on the severity of it and how long the person has been going through it.
