Eating Disorders in the United States is a disorder that is difficult to determine from a bystanders point of view, if someone is eating very little or a lot, most people would just assume that they are not hungry or they are very hungry. “In the United States, 20 million women and 10 million men suffer from a clinically significant eating disorder at some time in their life” (National Eating Disorder Association , n.d.), and many more citizens have a less severe cases that has not been diagnosed. The recognized eating disorders are Binge Eating Disorder, Bulimia Nervosa, and Anorexia Nervosa even though each disorder can destroy what a human once was not one disorder is worse than the other.
Binge eating occurs when a person “overeats but does not purge, which usually leads them to become overweight. Binge eating is characterized by eating, in a discrete period of time, an amount of food that is definitely larger than most people would eat in a similar period of time under similar circumstances, as well as by a sense of lack of control over eating during the episode” (Psychology Today, 2015). Since the modern era of technology began Binge Eating disorder has become a growing issue, Binge Eating is commonly used to “manage unpleasant emotions such as stress, depression, loneliness, fear, and anxiety. Binge eating can temporarily make feelings such as stress, sadness, anxiety, depression, and boredom evaporate into thin air, but the relief is very fleeting” (Smith, Segal, &…
