Dementia is truly an issue that has plagued the entire planet. According to the World Health Organization (WHO), as of 2015, 47.5 million people around the globe are living with dementia. A large proportion (58%) of these people are living in low and middle income countries, by 2050 this proportion is projected to rise up to 71%. Many people are living with the thought that dementia is a disease, however it is not. In actuality, dementia is made up of a number of different diseases. The Alzheimer 's Research of United Kingdom identifies dementia as an “umbrella term for the symptoms caused by the diseases.” These symptoms include but are not limited to memory loss, confusion, and personality change. The most common cause of dementia is Alzheimer 's disease. Aside from Alzheimer’s, there are nine other diseases that ultimate makeup dementia. They are Vascular Dementia, DLB, Mixed Dementia, Parkinson’s disease, Frontotemporal Dementia, Creutzfeldt-Jakob disease, Normal Pressure Hydrocephalus, Huntington’s disease, and Wernicke-Korsakoff Syndrome. Dementia is a condition that does not discriminate, all genders, races, and ages can get any form of dementia. Although there are many forms of treatments for each disease enlisted under dementia to help patients cope with their unbearable symptoms, there is ultimate no cure.
