Dante is one of the most known Medieval authors, who published relevant works able to show how deeply he felt the social role of the artist and how he was involved in the political and philosophical debate of his century, so that his political/philosophical thought, throughout the centuries, has been subjected to various metamorphosis, which are strongly connected with the political and ideological situations of the historical momentum in which they occurred.
This thesis aims to discover the main reason for which, some politicized activists authors as Foscolo, Rossetti and Valli, in some well-defined periods of their life, felt the need to re-inteprete Dante's oeuvre, whose readings stand out among all others of the same nature for their radical position and for a more determined efforts to offer a complete reading of the works and

Consequently, keeping in mind our main topic, in this thesis we need to analyse the political - cultural background in which these interpretations arose (that meens from the 18th century onwards with peaks in 19th and early 20th centuries) and the historical-political similarities between Dante's time and our interpreters' centuries, trying to provide significant answers to the following questions:
To what extent Dante's political experience influenced his own works?
To what extent the various features spread by Dante in both, his philosophical and political treaties (Convivio and De Monarchia) allowed Dante's thought to have a cultural life protracted for a so long time?
To what extent Dante's political thought is able to explain the huge popularity that his author acquired during the Italian Risorgimento and during the European
