In the case study, Theresa mentioned, “I’m a 47-year-old divorced woman with three kids and not nearly enough money…an ill mother. A crazy family for another” (Cowan, 2005, p. 41). One of my current clients is around the same age, has three kids, is divorced, has very little money, and cared for her ill father until he passed away. My client even thinks that her whole family is crazy as well. I found it extremely surprising and coincidental that my client had similar concerns as the case study client. However, although they both expressed to have similar concerns, these concerns were superficial to Theresa. Each client, although they come to therapy with similar concerns, once the therapist passes through the superficial issues, the deep-rooted issues appear.
