One of the key things I was taught was the importance of parenting, and family during the developing years of childhood and adulthood. As children, our parents are not only our role models but our first and most beloved teachers. When a parent is missing from that equation, that unit is broken, and the child fits the bill later in life. In our society, men are often thought of as the “ breadwinner” or “disciplinarian” of the family. When that role disappears for years on end, the responsibilities are unfulfilled, along with already struggling to make ends meet. Losing an influx of income, along with just the responsibility of raising children is a hard enough burden to bear. These responsibilities that are difficult if not near impossible to achieve without the presence or support of a second parent, and for young boys especially males. Not only for financial support but emotional, disciplinary as well. Often times the resulting “men” in the family turn to occupation versus education. In “On the Run” the character Mike, faces something similar to this when he decides to sell crack to help support his sick daughter. Without a diploma or degree finding a job that pays enough to live is nearly impossible, which often results in young men looking for “occupations” that provide more income aka organized crime, drug dealing …show more content…
When the football jock and his brother made the senior rally video, which was a spoof making fun of an unpopular male student, they just lost rally making video privileges, while the other student switched schools and districts and deleted all social media accounts. Thirsty Thursday's were popular and never challenged, which was where all the male students would buzz their arrowhead water bottles with vodka and powdered drink mix, like citrus light powder. I mention all this because in disadvantaged communities, where parents can not pay to have their children's problems hidden, the policies and methods of addressing the “situation”
