In the short story Courtney‘s World by Courtney McCree, she presents us with many different little stories. All of the stories play a major key to the psychological strategy that is presented in many of them. These stories include Food or Drink, Work or Play, and Rant. Which, allows us to take a closer view at them using Freud’s ID, Ego, and Super-ego concept. Freud being one of the most influential people of the twentieth century allow his view on how the works to be very important. When looking at the Id it focused on the nature of the child and wants. In Chapter 7: Work or Play, the pre-cautious of the Ego makes an appearance being forced to battle with the Id. On rather are not which one is more important work or play. In this chapter McCree the Ego is very dominated. “Work hard Play hard” is how the chapter starts off. Playing is typically for the Id wanting to let out the entire inner child. But she places work in front of play. Although she states that she rather play, “All I wanna do is play.” Her entire focus is leaning towards play but in reality the ego is winning which is work. The ego pre-cautiously comes in and it allows her back to reality that she has to work. “Work is just one of those things that we are supposed to do regardless of the situation.” However, this is the reason why in the opening line “ Work hard play hard “ the word work appears first because she knows that she must work before being able to enjoy herself. Nevertheless, the Id is still present throughout the entire content of the text in Chapter 7: Work or Play but, its need is not being met until the ego has now gone from pre-cautiously completing the work to cautiously completing the
