Have you ever thought that while walking down the street or even driving down the road, that the majority of our society doesn’t have a social structure or that you feel like you haven’t a care in the world? Well, in today’s society, social structure has been a big thing since the 19th century. I’ve chosen to do Break and Enter, as well as Failure to stop or remain for the West-Carleton-March. Also, the theories of the crimes I will be discussing are Containment theory and Criminal Subcultures. As we all know, social structure is a hard thing to do in today’s society.
Crime A-Break and Enter
In this discussion, I have chosen Ward 5-West Carleton-March. From the information below I will determine if the ward is the safest and most preferable to live in. I will be comparing the total crime rates and actual number of offenses for the ward in 2012/2013 in regards to breaking and Enter.
The crime rates and actual numbers of offenses for Break and Enter in West Carleton-March is as follows, total actual offense for the 2012 year was 57, a rate of 224.8 offenses as per 100,000 people and a total of 50 actual offenses, a rate of 196.1 offenses per 100,000 people in 2013. In the Ottawa-Carleton ward, there isn’t a majority of gang problems. The number of gangs that have been counted for are 434 members, which 38 of who are from a different area and 95% are male. A lot of youths start at a young age when they get into crimes. The ages they start at are usually 13 years of age and up. As well, there are extensively of run-down buildings and areas due to vandalism, break and enter etc. Here is a list below of the abandoned places in the Ottawa area; 1205 Shillington House, 246 Gladstone street, Abandoned NCC Farmstead, Anne Heggtveit Ski Hill, Bank Quarry, Barber Shop, Barn Fort, Barrhaven Hotel
