Walmart Retailer Analysis

The four retailers that I used for my comparison are Target, Dillons, Hyvee, and Walmart. The items I chose to compare at these retailers are 2% milk, Eggs, Turkey, Hot dog buns, Ketchup, Mayo and Brownie mix. I found it interesting to see the different variety from store to store as well as the price differences. The first retailer I went to was Target. Target would be considered a supercenter because they provide some grocery items as well as clothes, home décor, and toys. The target market for this retailer is anyone looking for a one-stop shopping experience. Someone who wants to go to one store and get everything they need in a quick and easy trip. They would be considered a supermarket because they provided mostly grocery items and that is their main focus. The target market for Dillons would be the shopper that is looking for fresh perishable items and a large variety of different items that you could not find at a supercenter. This would be for someone who is looking to just buy groceries. They chose this market because they carry Kroger brands items and Kroger is a large food provider and they can do well selling their product. The retailer is satisfying their needs by providing a large assortment of items as well as many varieties. The retailer builds a long-term advantage by having a loyalty system where the more groceries you buy the more savings you get on future items as well as gas. They would be considered a supermarket along with Dillons because they provide mainly groceries. The target market for Hyvee would be the same as Dillons because they are both supermarkets. They chose this market to compete with stores like Dillons and other supermarkets in the area. The retailer strives to satisfy the needs of the target market by doing the same things are Dillons and providing many different varieties of products as well as specialty products that can only be found in their store. Hyvee builds a long-term advantage by providing many things that the Dillons for example does not. The Hyvee has a restaurant in it and has larger open spaces for people to move about the store and find items. I would say that they are very effective.
