Ignoring this, USA showed its people and the world that USSR is a backward country where people are not getting basic human rights such as private property and freedom of speech. When USSR became a nuclear power, just like USA, USA then showed the world that how dangerous USSR is and kept fear of a nuclear war. Even the American government used to defy the nuclear tests of USSR but it was about defense when they tested themselves. Similarly, in USSR, where everything was state owned, they used to show their people that America is a hostile nation and its people as well and a hostile relationship is the only relationship that could be between these two nations. Their film committee was dedicated to the cold war. Under the rule of Joseph Stalin, movies were made within strict margins. The government and the cinema industry were closely linked. If the movies weren’t patriotic enough they were banned. They made huge number of movies who functioned as negative propaganda. In more than half of the movies made in Soviet Union, the villains of the movies were either American or sometimes British. Attacks made by America on Soviet Union were easily used as material by Soviet film producers for their own attack on America. During this time they also used history against America, for instant by saying “Did the Red Army engage in the mass rapes of German women and pillage German art treasures, factories and forests?”
In most movies, USA and Soviet cinemas, fear was used as a propaganda technique. These movies showed a possible nuclear attack leading to a nuclear war and both showing that the other can attack at any time. Films that depicted nuclear war included, Duck and Cover, which explained what to do if there was a nuclear attack. The War Game, showed the effects of nuclear war.
