In both stories we learn of a very healthy and abundant natural environment that supports much life. We also than learn of what people can do to these environments that we live in if we are not careful. The Once-ler and the islanders both start off just by using the resources the best they can to stay alive and prosper. This quickly grows however, into a careless and rash need to take more and more without any regulation. The Once-ler does not cut down the trees according to any growth rate of them, thus destroying the entire forest and species of tree. The islanders squander all of their natural resources and plunge their island into a barren, cannibalistic chaos. While both of these stories have very different results and lessons to be learned, they have many overlapping similarities and tell us valuable information that is relevant to the planet that we are living
