Everyone knows the classic “Cinderella” story, a young girl, called Cinderella, is a servant to her step-mother and step-sisters, who force her to cook and clean for them. The prince has a ball at the castle to find a bride, and Cinderella’s Fairy Godmother gives her a beautiful dress to go to the ball in, but it will turn to rags at the stroke of midnight. Cinderella goes to the ball and falls in love with the prince, but when the clock strikes midnight, she runs away from him. While running away, she leaves one glass slipper on the stairway in her wake. The next day the prince uses this slipper to find his bride. When Cinderella tries on the slipper, the Prince realizes he has found his mystery bride, and everyone lives happily ever after.

In the Grimm Brothers’ story the Prince came himself, while in the Disney story, the Prince sent the Duke to find his bride. The way the step-sisters acted is also much different. In the Grimm Brothers’ tale, when the step-sisters saw that their foot would not fit into the shoe, they cut off parts of their feet. When the first step-sister got the shoe to fit, the Prince took her away to the castle to be wed, but when he saw there was blood in the shoe, he realized that he had the wrong bride and brought her back, which also happened with the other step-sister. In the Disney tale, the step-sisters only tried to squeeze their foot into the shoe, without any blood or gore. When Cinderella tried the slipper on in the Grimm Brothers’ story, the shoe fit and everything was perfect without any problems, but in the Disney story, Cinderella’s step-mother tripped the duke causing him to drop and break the slipper. Cinderella’s step-mother thought she had ruined Cinderella’s chances, but Cinderella happened to have the other glass slipper with her. The original Grimm Brothers “Cinderella” is much more unfit for children than the Disney adaptation. Disney took the story, modified it, and made it suitable for children, which is good in some aspects, but bad in others. It is good in a way that children can appreciate the story without getting scared or horrified, but it is bad in the way that people don’t know how the story was originally supposed to be told. The replication became more famous than the original, which I think should not be the case. I believe that the original story should be told more often than the adaptation. None the less, both stories are great despite their differences and what you learn from each story remains
