Everyone knows the classic “Cinderella” story, a young girl, called Cinderella, is a servant to her step-mother and step-sisters, who force her to cook and clean for them. The prince has a ball at the castle to find a bride, and Cinderella’s Fairy Godmother gives her a beautiful dress to go to the ball in, but it will turn to rags at the stroke of midnight. Cinderella goes to the ball and falls in love with the prince, but when the clock strikes midnight, she runs away from him. While running away, she leaves one glass slipper on the stairway in her wake. The next day the prince uses this slipper to find his bride. When Cinderella tries on the slipper, the Prince realizes he has found his mystery bride, and everyone lives happily ever after. This is how most people know the “Cinderella” story, but what most people do not know is that the original “Cinderella” is much different. The fairy-tale of “Cinderella” was written by The Grimm Brothers, but most people only know the version Disney produced in 1950. Although both The Grimm Brothers and Disney both adopted the same basic “Cinderella” story, they are very different in plot and tone. One difference in the stories is Cinderella’s parents’ statuses. In the Grimm Brother’s story, Cinderella’s father was alive throughout the entire tale, but in Disney’s adaptation, Cinderella’s father died soon after he married his second wife. By having her father die, Disney gave the feeling that he would not have let his second wife…
