Autism(Also known as autism spectrum disorder), are general terms for a group of complex disorders of brain development. The symptoms of autism are present from early childhood and are characterized by difficulties in social and communication interaction. It is called “spectrum” disorder because people with the disorder can have a range of many symptoms. People with Autism Spectrum Disorder might have trouble communicating with you like normal people do, or they might not look directly at you when they are having a conversation with you. In this paper, I will be discussing the diagnosis, treatment, and the major characteristics of Autism.
You begin to notice the characteristics of an autistic child when they become antisocial, have behavior problems such as acting out , and avoid interaction and communication with others. “Symptoms may include: Significant problems developing nonverbal communication skills, such as eye-to-eye gazing, facial expressions, and body posture, failure to establish friendships with children the same age, lack of interest in sharing enjoyment, interests, or achievements with other people, lack of empathy…..such as pain or sorrow’’(“Autism-Symptoms”). Some children with ASD show signs of future problems within the first few months of life. “Symptoms may not show up until 24 months or later. Some children with an ASD seem to develop normally until around 18 to 24 months of age and then they stop gaining new skills, or they…
