Keane Smith is a 20 year old Caucasian male student in his sophomore year at a college in Wooster, Ohio. He moved to the United States from Hastings, East Sussex, approximately two years ago to attend college. When Keane is in Hastings he lives with his loving parents and siblings; he is the oldest of three children. He appears to be his stated age and is approximately 6’ 2” tall and weighs 190 lbs. Keane appears to be in excellent physical condition. He is on the men’s rugby team and lives on campus currently.

Rationale: The mASI is a reliable and valid instrument that will afford the client and counselor means to determine the severity of addiction, so treatment can be structured to fit the client’s needs. The mASI is utilized for treatment seeking individuals regardless the types of facility, type of addiction, or individual’s perception to problems and has a high concordance with the DSM-V diagnosis for substance abuse and alcohol abuse disorder (Denis, Fatseas, Beltran, Serre, Alexandre, Debrabrant, Daulouede, & Auriacombe, 2015).
