Breast Cancer: A Genetic Analysis

Great Essays
Cells are the basic building block of life, it plays a vital role in transferring human language called DNA from generation to generation. DNA stands for Deoxyribose Nucleic Acids, it contains genetic information for our cells. It contains all the essential elements of the universe, in such precise quantity, that it sustains life. Our DNA, is able to instruct the cell in terms of which protein they have to make.Following the instructions, the protein created determines the cell function, so basically DNA controls all cellular functions. This is part of the cell cycle under normal conditions, something strange happens under abnormal conditions. Under abnormal conditions, the cell can replicate in certain ways causing mutations, which …show more content…
Breast cancer is a disease where a certain cell in the breast are abnormal they divide uncontrollably everyone has BRCA1 or BRCA2 genes, BRCA is supposed to repair cell damage and keep breast, ovarian and other cell growing normal. When these genes contain mutation that are passed on from generation to generation. “The genes don’t function normal and breast, ovarian, and other cancer risk increase” stated by the article “cancer information and support network.” Melanoma cancer is the most serious type of skin cancer “An increased risk of melanoma occurs when specific gene mutations are passed within a family from generation to generation” stated by the article “cancer information and support network.”Melanoma is a serious type of cancer due to uncontrollable pigment, melanoma cancer is most likely to affect people with lighter skin color. This cancer is passed on from generation because if one or both of your parents have melanoma and you have lighter skin you're most likely to get it but if you have darker skin you rarely get melanoma …show more content…
The reason why tobacco can cause cancer is because the chemicals in cigarette smoke enter our bloodstream and then from there can affect the rest of our body. Tobacco mostly causes lung cancer and heart diseases. “Tobacco smoke contains hundreds of harmful chemicals, and about 70 of them are known to cause cancer. Once ingested, the toxic effects of tobacco smoke can potentially damage every organ system in the body, which explains the vast variety of cancers triggered by use of the substance 4” said by Eric

Melanoma is a type of cancer that is considered one among the most dangerous. Melanoma traces are usually found over the skin, but rarely it can even be found in the eye or even in the internal organs. The main cause of Melanoma is the direct exposure to the ultraviolent (UV) rays. Reducing tanning from sun or from tanning lamps can curtail the chance from Melanoma. For past decades, recovery from Melanoma was a nightmare.…

All the parts in a cell have their individual functions that work together to make the cell work well. The nucleus controls the functions of the cell, and that way all the parts of the cell will work together. The cell wall and the cell membrane work together to protect the cell. The cell wall gives it structure and the cell membrane regulates what goes in and out. The mitochondria gives the whole cell energy, which means the chloroplast is able to take in the sunlight for food, which, along with water, gives the vacuole a job: storing food and water.…

Common tumors are often caused by mutations in the genes that may potentially lead to varying protein structures, which do not correlate with their proper functions (1). Majority of these mutations arise as a result of substituting one nucleotide base pair for another, but a significant number are also from adding or removing one of more of these nucleotides that ultimately disrupts protein translation (1). One of the mutated genes linked to cancer is BRCA1 (2,3,4). BRCA1 stops tumor growth by suppressing the cell’s progression further into the cell cycle especially at G1 and G2 checkpoints (2). Missense mutations observed and studied in BRCA1 allowed researchers to believe that BRCA1 plays a role in turning on transcription for many other genes involved in regulating cell proliferation (2).…

Cells are the basic building blocks of life. They are the smallest structural unit in an organism, and the organism must continuously create more cells in order to live. New cells are created through a process called cell division, or mitosis, where one cell turns into two cells. This process is necessary for life, but occasionally the cells do not do what they are supposed to. Cancer is one example of cell malfunction.…

Melanoma is usually, but not always, a cancer of the skin. Typically forms on skin, but it can materialize anywhere in the body. Anyone can get Melanoma on their palms, soles of feet and under nails. Melanoma in these areas make up larger portion in African Americans than caucasians. This cancer is more dangerous because if not caught early, it is more likely to spread to other parts of the body.…

Even though the BRCA1 gene mutation is a genetic marker that indicates and or can predict cancerous diseases now, however, it may not be a marker in the future that will predict cancerous cells. For example the BRCA1 gene may not be able to detect breast cancer in the future. Breast cancer is a group of cancer cells that start in the cells of a breast. It also is the second leading cause of death among women. There is no one specific cause that you can pinpoint how it developed.…

Almost every cell goes through a phase called the Cell Cycle this is where they cell grows and develops and then eventually splits into two cells. Why is this important? Well through the cell cycle it repairs damaged cells or replaces worn out cells. When you break your leg the cells work to get the bone healed or when you have a cut the cell cycle will help you by dividing cells to create a scab for your cut to heal. The cell spends most of its life in interphase, then it goes to the mitotic phase.…

The two major categories of mutated genes are firstly oncogenes. These are the cancer causing in rapidly spreading cancers. Mutations of oncogenes may result in direct and continuous stimulations of the pathways that control cellular growth and division and the repair of DNA. These mutations are not inherited. Some common examples of oncogenes are HER2 which is a specialised protein.…

    Biology: Cell Theory

Cell Theory is used to describe cells as the basic building blocks of all living things. All organisms are composed of one or more cells and have an outer layer of a plasma membrane (or cellular membrane), which acts as a barrier that divides the cell from its surrounding environment. The plasma membrane of a cell acts as a physical barrier and regulates the exchange of materials with its surroundings. It is a permeable membrane that surrounds the cytoplasm. The contents held within the plasma membrane are called cytoplasm.…

    Double Helical Structure

The structure of DNA was first discovered by James D. Watson and Francis Crick, and in 1962 they won the Nobel prize for discovering this structure, one of the most significant discoveries in the 20th century. This double helical structure is the same for all species, apart from a few strains of virus which have mRNA instead of DNA, and their discovery explained how DNA replicates and how hereditary information is coded. Deoxyribonucleic acid, or DNA, contains the genetic instructions used in the development and function of all living organisms. The main role of DNA molecules is the storage of information and instructions needed to…

For all organisms, prokaryotes and eukaryotes, they all must regulate the specific genes that are expressed at any given time (Campbell 365). Each organism continuously turn on and off genes in response to external and internal environmental signals. The regulation of gene expression is especially important in multicellular organisms since it is essential for the different types of cell to have their own cell specialization (Campbell 365). In order for each cell to do it’s given role, they each need to maintain a program of gene expression individually to have some genes expressed and the rest not (Campbell 365). Only 20% of protein coding genes that a human cell has might be expressed.…
