William Franklin "Billy" Graham Jr. is an American Christian evangelist. I chose Billy Graham because my family looks up to him religiously, and my church has went to one of his sermons before. I unfortunately didn’t get to go because I was too young. My churches youth group would always watched videos of him preaching, and I felt as if it was the only person I could write about with interest. Billy was born November 7th, 1918 in Charlotte, North Carolina His parents were William and Morrow Graham. He was the first child of four, and was raised on his family’s dairy farm. He started out as a Southern Baptist preacher, and then over the years he became a very well-known individual, some might even say he was famous. He had many sermons and revivals, …show more content…
However, he felt like he didn’t belong and transferred with a friend to the Florida Bible Institute. In Florida, Graham soon joined a Southern Baptist church. When he graduated from the Florida Bible Institute, he then moved to Illinois and attended Wheaton College for more spiritual guidance. While at this college he met his wife, Ruth. They graduated college and soon after, Billy and Ruth got married on August 14th, 1943.
Throughout his early years, he was a pastor at the First Baptist church in Western Springs, Illinois. In 1947, he became the President of a set of Christian schools until 1952 when he decided he wanted to preach instead. After a while, Billy got very popular and people started to notice him and his famous sermons. In 1949, his career exploded. Billy was invited to preach at a L.A. revival. Stuart Hamblen had Billy on his radio show, Billy Graham’s name blew up, and the word of his revival spread like wildfire. He was such a success that they made him stay even longer.
