In “Because I Could Not Stop for Death”, Emily which she puts as herself as first-person point of view and “Death” are taking the journey. In line 3 and four she says The Carriage held but just Ourselves and Immortality which is the ability to live forever. She knows this journey to death is also the beginning of the afterlife. So, she believes she will continue a life, just not here on Earth. No wonder she's not freaking out. The carriage in which Death and the Emily ride is a metaphor for the way in which we make our final passage to death. They drive in the carriage along her town and past the schoolyard and fields of grain, and then to her grave. Like for example in the first line, we'd be telling the whole truth, but not in a straight-up or direct sort of way. She also saying that the reason a person can off the truth is due the fact that the truth can be taken in either a positive or negative way. She basically is trying to say to say the truth don’t be dishonest but don’t say it straight forward say it with a slang a nicer
