Why it is important: It is important in the novel because Atticus never judges people and Scout understands that.
“Mockingbirds don’t do one thing but make music for us to enjoy. They don’t eat up people’s gardens, don’t nest in corncribs, they don’t do one thing but sing their heart out for us. That’s why it’s a sin to kill a mockingbird.”(119) Explain: It is wrong to kill mockingbirds because they do not harm anyone or anything. To kill one would mean you are taking an innocent life away.
