Millions of hands were behind history's greatest revelations, but also history’s most tragic downfalls -a truth which resonates in Australia’s colonial history, and in Oodgeroo’s poetic masterpiece.
In ‘We Are Going’, Noonuccal reveals the tribulations and tyranny faced by the Aboriginals, and through her criticism, she exposes the dire need for social change and reform in an Australia riddled with inherent destruction brought from the invasion of the British convicts, and thus by doing so, she sheds a light on the fallacy of Australian stereotypes, uncovering the main part of Australia’s history from its marginalised and hushed voices.

All of the lines nine to fourteen create an association to the land, via her use of metaphor - which then through the seemingly excessive repetition of the word “we are”, it unifies and strengthens the idea of spiritual identity and connection to the land of Australia.
Using this idea of the Aboriginals connection to the land, it can be analysed that her use of comparing white men to ants, not only showed the amount of them but also how they destroy history.
