Background/ Context:
Macbeth was written by William Shakespeare between 1599 and 1606. Macbeth was first performed on stage in April of 1611 in the Globe Theater. The play is set mainly in Scotland and was wrote during the reign of James I.

Characters Analysis: Macbeth: The main character of this play. He is roughly 6’ and skinny as a rail. Macbeth faces several hardships in this play. He learns that his actions not only affect him, but also the lives of others. He can not resist his other “dark side” because he has his mind and everyone behind him to tell him to do the bad actions. He is considered a tragic hero because he starts out the play as a hero but then turns to his other side and has a tragic fall. Macduff: The thane of Fife. He is about the same characteristics as Macbeth but a little bigger and wider. He sides against Macbeth and he runs off to England. Macbeth had hatred for him as he had the murderers kill his family but was not able to kill Macduff. He seeks revenge on Macbeth because he knows who should be next in line for the throne. At the end of the play he kills Macbeth and carries his head to Malcolm.
Summary/Commentary:

Act 1: Act 1 starts off with a meeting of the three witches planning a meeting with Macbeth in the future. Also in Act 1 there is a battle to where Scotland On arrival back home the King decides Macbeth should be awarded with the title of the Thane of Cawdor.
